Costa Rica- December 2024

Image
We just got back from an epic trip to Costa Rica! This may have been one of my favorite trips ever. FLIGHTS: There are two main airports in Costa Rica Liberia (LIR) and San Jose (SJO) - name alert there is also a San Jose airport in California so double check :)  We took a tour so met in San Jose which meant we had to fly through Atlanta (there are direct flights from Minneapolis to LIR).  Liberia is closer to the beaches and volcano, and San Jose is further south and closer to the cloud forest. We like to break up the trip so we flew to Atlanta, spent a few hours at the World of Coca Cola (kind of overpriced and super crowded but so fun for kids to try 80 different coca colas from around the world) and spent the night and then flew out in the morning. HOTEL: In Atlanta we stayed at the Hyatt Place Centennial which was across the street from both the Aquarium and the World of Coca Cola.   TOUR: We used G-adventures tour https://www.gadventures.com/ whcih does sm...

Glacier National Park

We took a 6 day trip to Glacier National Park this summer and I cannot recommend it highly enough.  One of my favorite places I have ever been! OVERVIEW: I recommend going in the summer.  The temperatures were in the 70s to 80s during the day and 40s to 50s at nighttime.  You cannot even drive the going to the sun road until mid-June due to snow.  We had above normal temperatures for the first few days but it was still incredible. There are two "sides" to Glacier National Park the East Side (St. Mary) and West Side (West Glacier).  Connecting the two sides is a road called the going to the sun road and takes about 2.5 hours to drive from one side to the other.  That's why we chose to split our trip to 2 nights on the East side and 2 nights on the West side to minimize driving and experience all that Glacier has to offer. I thought 5 days was perfect for the amount of time, but I think you could do longer or shorter depending on the number of hikes and activ...

Fairmont Princess Scottsdale

Just a quick post about our recent trip to Phoenix/ Scottsdale for President's day HOTEL: 5/5 Fairmont Princess Scottsdale ROOM: 4/5 We had a suite upgrade award for Fairmont so had a 1 bedroom suite with a large bathroom, dining, living with sofabed and balcony.  The room was very spacious and convenient to the Princess pool.   POOLS: 5/5 There are 4 main pools and a spa pool.  We loved the sunset pool that had a beach that the kids could play at.  The splash pad/ waterslide pool had two fast waterslides (must be 42" tall) and the Princess pool was the warmest and had 2 hot tubs.  There was also an adult only pool. SPA: 5/5 The spa treatments were amazing. Loved the steam room, sauna, hot tub/ cold plunge and rooftop pool.  You also have access to the gym and classes the day of your spa treatment so I tried out TRX but the aerial yoga looked aweome. FOOD: 5/5 Pool food 5/5: very expensive but we enjoyed the hummus, salads, chicken tenders Plaza ...

Acadia National Park

Image
For our Fall Break this year we decided to check out another National Park and went to Acadia National Park in October. I highly recommend this trip for families as an easy short trip to hit beautiful locations. We flew into Boston and then took a puddle jumper to Bar Harbor Airport.  They let our kids sit in the cockpit and pretend to fly the plane! We rented a car at the Bar Harbor Airport and used the Guide Along tour https://guidealong.com/tour/acadia-national-park/ HOTEL: 5/5 West Street Hotel.  This was a wonderful hotel with rooftop pool (adults only) but adjacent Bar Harbor Club with pool, tennis courts etc.  The location was incredible with ocean views and walkable to many restaurants and attractions.  Scenic Drives: We did the two loops of Acadia National Park stopping in the visitor center to get the Junior Ranger books.  My kids loved doing the activities and earning another Junior Ranger Badge to add to their collection.   For ...
