Miraval Berkshires - June 2023

For our Anniversary this year we did a kid-free trip to Miraval Berkshires!  We had a great time and I wanted to share all the deets with you.

If you are new to the Miraval brand the idea is that it is a wellness resort with yoga, meditation, spa, and fitness.  We picked the Berkshires in Massachusetts because we traveled in June and thought Arizona or Austin would be too warm. Also there are unique opportunities at the Berkshires property (i.e. my husband got to play golf).  He was initially skeptical but ended up drinking the kool-aid and enjoyed the trip.  You set your intention and then write yourself a letter that is mailed back to you in 3 months.

Tips for booking:

  • Plan ahead.  We booked at least 6 months ago and were able to get all of the activities we wanted.
  • Look for deals-- this resort is soooo expensive if you don't have a deal.  We got stay 2 nights get 3rd night free which still ended up being around $3000 total for the 3 nights.
  • Watch out for resort fees (apparently it is 25% so don't feel bad about the no-tipping policy)
  • Consider getting the Hyatt Credit Card.  I am now on a points journey and had opened up the credit card weeks before our stay but got upgraded to Hyatt Discoverist status and got upgraded to a suite on check in.
Getting there:
  • We flew into BDL (Bradley Airport in Connecticut).  It was a 2 hour direct flight from Minneapolis
  • There is a free shuttle from Miraval that takes 70 minutes to travel to Lenox, MA
The hotel 4/5:
  • The Berkshires property is very weird because all of the buildings are connected with walkways which makes it possible to come here year-round but initially is confusing.
  • The hallways are slightly dark and have low ceilings but otherwise we liked our room
  • We got upgraded to a suite so had a living area with couch & TV, bedroom, and great bathroom.

The food 3/5:
  • I read reviews that said the food was terrible. It was not terrible.  You just have to look at the labels to see what is vegan, gluten free etc and set your expectations accordingly.
  • There is a main restaurant where you have all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) with a menu and also a buffet at breakfast and lunch
  • There is also grab-and-go food available at the coffee bar as well as smoothies & juice
  • I was not impressed with the smoothies in the coffee shop but did like the orange carrot juice once you added vodka to it.
  • There was a full bar but it was very expensive so I would recommend bringing your own wine/ beer if desired
  • We enjoyed dinner at the mansion at the 1894 restaurant.  It's a multi course meal that you choose and we had wine pairings in an intimate setting

The FREE activities 5/5:
  • There were tons of activities "included" with the stay.  I loved the yoga classes, meditation classes, we did the quantum leap (climbing up a tree and jumping down with a harness) and flying squirrel (swinging from a rope 30 feet in the air).  We also enjoyed the hikes and stretching class (loved the new shoulder class).
  • The spa area is incredible and you can utilize the amenities without booking any services-- including indoor/outdoor pool, hot tub, steam room, sauna, multiple relaxation areas.
  • The pool was lovely, and only spent brief time due to the weather

The PAID activities 5/5:
  • I thought the worthwhile ones included: country road bike, Warrior Challenge Course
  • Not worth the money: cleansing my chakra's with vibrational sound bowls
  • Wish I had done: past life regression, kayaking (booked but too exhausted)
  • We enjoyed hatchet throwing as well
  • The spa was lovely and we each had relaxing massages.  Mine was "deep tissue" but was not really a deep tissue massage more of a firm relaxation massage.  Maybe they were scared of all of the bruises on my body from the Warrior Challenge Course.
  • I was unable to use my arms fully the next day after the massage & challenge course not sure which one was the culprit (extreme muscle soreness) so had to cancel the 3 hours of kayaking.

The experience 4/5:
  • Loved the idea of unplugging from cell phones but many people utilized phones
  • Honestly was so exhausted from wanting to try all of the activities and having FOMO from the things we missed out on
  • Overall we loved the resort and would highly recommend!
